Braintree: MP slams hospital over operation cancellations

Braintree's MP has slammed a hospital after it cancelled a pensioner’s coronary operation twice in just one month.

Tony Watts, 70, was due to attend Broomfield Hospital for a scheduled leg aneurysm operation at the end of October.

However he was told just two weeks before the operation date, that it had to be cancelled because it was too expensive.

Mr Watts, of Derwent Way, Great Notley, contacted MP Brooks Newmark who wrote to NHS Mid Essex and persuaded them to reschedule the operation for November 7.

But Mr Watts’ new appointment was cancelled again just two days before because the hospital claimed it could not organise the preoperative planning or staff in time.

Mr Newmark said: “This is completely unacceptable and it is not the first time this type of complaint has come to me."
