Devonshire: fans can be proud of our performance
9:00am Thursday 26th January 2012

Despite seeing them lose 3-1 at Blue Square Bet Premier high-fliers Fleetwood Town, boss Alan Devonshire feels Braintree Town’s fans should be proud of their team after seeing them put in another committed performance.
Devonshire didn’t want to comment on the performance of the officials as his team were handed their eighth red card of the season with a decision that gave his side a mountain to climb against one of the league’s most potent strike forces.
However, he did heap praise on the character shown by his players both before and after striker Ben Wright had been given his marching orders for a foul in the 23rd minute.
Devonshire said: “I don’t want to get involved in talking about the referee’s decisions, but some of the decisions, I can’t get my head around.
“I don’t want to get into trouble by talking about it, but people who were there could see for themselves and make their own minds up.
“But I know my boys gave me everything again and, as a manager, that’s all I can ask for.
“We have had that in the last few games.
“Fleetwood are a good side, but before we went down to ten men we were quite comfortable in defence and looked good going forward.
“I just would have liked to have seen it with 11 against 11.
“The boys have shown a lot of character in the last week, which has been a tough one for us.
“They are showing great character and I’m delighted with what I’m getting from them.
“The fans should be proud of them.”
