Braintree and Witham games fall victim to the Siberian chill
9:53am Saturday 4th February 2012
Both Braintree Town and Witham Town have seen their respective games fall foul of the winter chill today.
The Iron had been due to travel to face Lincoln City in the Blue Square Bet Premier on Saturday, but an inspection by match referee Richard West concluded that the game couldn't go ahead due to a frozen pitch at Sincil Bank.
Plummeting overnight temperatures went down to -8C in the Midlands and it wasn't much better in Essex, where the Siberian blast also put paid to Witham Town's hopes of action on Saturday.
Garry Kimble's side had been due to host Barkingside in the Essex Senior League at Spa Road, but it was postponed after an early pitch inspection.
Witham's next game is scheduled to be when they host Southend Manor at Spa Road on Tuesday night, while Braintree aren't due to be in action again until February 11 when they host Southport at the Amlin Stadium, Braintree.
